English 3583 - Studies in Modern Drama 1

Course Description

Through critical analysis and interpretations of dramatic texts from August Strindberg to Harold Pinter, this course explores plays, playwrights, and major aesthetic movements in the theatre from the late nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century. We will work in a lecture and discussion format with, where available and applicable, viewings of film versions of the texts. There will be weekly quizzes on the plays, two essay exams, and regular response papers to productions attended.
