3593 - Studies in Modern Drama 2
Focusing on plays and playwrights from the 1980s on, this course will explore primary concepts and texts in contemporary theatre. We will read and discuss one or two plays a week ranging from playwrights as diverse as Albee, Wilson, Churchill, Mamet, Parks, Kushner, Stoppard, Gilman, and Mann. There will be weekly quizzes on the plays, two essay exams, and regular response papers to productions attended. We will work in a lecture and discussion format with, where available and applicable, viewings of film versions of the texts. Modern Drama 1 is a prerequisite for this course.
