Advanced Seminar in Gerontology

Course Description

This course is intended for students in the final semester of the programme. It will consist of a multi-disciplinary lecture-seminar format. Selected topics in aging research and intervention will be discussed. The purpose of this course is to ensure that students have a comprehensive background in the field of aging, including an understanding of ethics and values. Half Credit.

Note: There will be no textbook for this course, however, handouts on specific issues will be provided as required reading.

Course Requirements

The grade for this course will be based on four components:

30% (1) Critical Journal--A summary and critique of Colloquium Sessions and Class Presentations--2 Pages-Typed--Double-Spaced Each --Total of 16 Pages (8 topics)--Guiding Questions will be distributed.

30% (2) Class Presentation--approximately 60 minutes and involving groups of two students. Topics to be chosen in consultation with the instructor.

30% (3) Term Paper--10-12 pages Typed-Double-Spaced--Paper should contain at least Four (4) scholarly references that are used in the paper.

10% (4) Class attendance and participation.
