St.
Thomas University offers a liberal arts co-operative education programme,
the first in Atlantic Canada, and one of only a few existing in the region.
Co-op education is taken in conjunction with students’ arts programmes.
Students enter the co-op programme directly from high school following
their acceptance to the University. The BA (Co-op) programme consists
of experiential learning and workplace computing courses, as well as professional
development workshops relating to various aspects of the students’
academic and work lives. The work component of the programme requires
students to complete three work terms between the end of first year and
the start of fourth year. While on each of their work terms, students
must complete reports to be assessed by the co-op faculty advisor. Students
fulfilling the requirements of their Arts programme and their co-op programme
will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Co-op) degree.
