(Religious Studies, Sociology and English)
Truth in Society is made up of:
English 1006, taught by Professor Russell Hunt
Sociology 1006, taught by Professor John McKendy
Religious Studies 1006, taught by Professor Thom Parkhill
In this section students are invited to consider, as they participate in each of the three courses, how people come to believe the things they do about important matters, how their beliefs change, and how the insights offered by the three approaches help us understand how we come to accept beliefs as true. They investigate some of the ways people have formulated, defended and changed what they believe about important issues such as death, evil, suffering, prejudice, sexuality, science, the supernatural. They write and talk with others about their work, and about campus events such as drama, lectures, concerts, readings and gallery openings. They share what they're learning, respond to the writing and talking, of others in the section, and publish their findings. They learn to use the university computer lab, to create their own Web pages for sharing their writing, and to become more confident, more independent and more resourceful writers, thinkers, and learners.
