Dr. O’Brien called the meeting to order. He welcomed Dr. Peter Kent, the new delegate from UNB.

1. Agenda

Motion: That Senate adopt the agenda as circulated.
MacDonald:McGowan. CARRIED.

2. Announcements

Mr. Batt reminded members of Senate about the various activities of Welcome Week 2004.

3. Minutes

a) That Senate approve the minutes of the June 28, 2004 meeting.
Parkhill:McGowan. CARRIED.
b) That Senate approve the minutes of the July 20, 2004 meeting.
McGowan:Stevenson. CARRIED.
4. Business Arising from Minutes
Mr. Batt noted that the proposed programme in Social Work, which was approved in principle (Item 5A) at the June 28, 2004 meeting, was undergoing further revisions.

5. Approval of Graduate

Motion: That Senate approve the awarding of the Bachelor of Arts degree to Sean Badman, August 26, 2004.
Batt:Malcolmson. CARRIED.

6. Nominating Committee

Motion: That Andrea Schutz be elected to the Learning and Teaching Development Committee, her term beginning immediately and ending June 30, 2005.
Malcolmson:Stevenson. CARRIED.

7. External Review Update

Dr. Malcolmson praised the English Department for its annual report (17 June 2004) and encouraged other departments to report on the implementation of the recommendations of their respective external reviews.

8. Registrar’s Warrant

Mr. Batt reported that he had issued a Registrar’s Warrant for the following courses:
HIST 3653 History of Western Feminism
SOCI 3143 Special Topics: Sociology of China

9. Question Period

a) In response to Dr. Parkhill’s question concerning the schedule of classes and opening Mass on Thursday, September 9, 2004, it was noted that Mass was scheduled from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
b) In response to Dr. Smith’s inquiry about the next meeting of Senate, Mr. Batt reported that the formula would call for the next regular meeting on September 16, 2004, 7:00 p.m. Dr. Malcolmson suggested that we would circulate a set of meeting dates.
c) The Co-op Programme Review external report was circulated.

The meeting adjourned at 2:18 p.m.
