It is a feature of the Inkshed working conferences that in lieu of the usual oral discussion after a presentation or shared experience, there is a short (five or ten minute) period of silence during which those present "freewrite" responses, questions, or random reflections. The texts thus produced are then read by others -- sometimes simply by exchanging them around tables, sometimes by an "editorial committee" -- and passages which strike others as noteworthy are marked, and occasionally commented on. The most frequently marked passages are then transcribed and "published" (photocopied and distributed to participants). The texts linked to this program are simply the texts as they were published at the conference.
For a history of this process, have a look here. This text was circulated on the reading table at the Inkshed XVI conference, and was commented on by participants; those comments are serving as one basis for an ongoing revision of the document.
