How do I download translation software?

 

If you know what program you are looking for, you simply log onto the computer, open an internet browser and find the site with the software. Make sure the software is free. Then click the button indicating the download of the program. Then choose to save the program. Make sure it saves under C:\Program Files.

 

After the download is complete, you will have to go to the ‘My Computer’ icon on the desktop and choose the C: drive. Then choose the folder marked ‘program files’, search for your downloaded files and select the setup option for that program. Follow the setup instructions.

How do I resize a picture or graphic image?

 

If you want to resize a picture using Photoshop you will have to log into the scanner computer, which is facing the help desk. Log on and open Photoshop. Then choose ‘File’, ‘Open’ and select the drive where you’ve saved your picture.

 

Once your picture is on the screen, select ‘Image’ from the top menu bar and then select ‘Image Size’. In the box marked ‘Width’ change the picture to whatever size you like. The ‘Height’ changes automatically. The size is in inches.

Students can access MacAfee by going to www.unb.ca

How and where do I access SPSS?

 

SPSS is on all of the student computers on the campus. You can access it through the folder net_apps, which is on the desktop. If the net_apps folder is not on the desktop, you can find it by double clicking ‘My Computer’ on the desktop, then click Net_Apps, then click on ‘Shortcut to SPSS90'. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

How do I insert my name on an SPSS assignment?

 

In the SPSS windows data editor go to, data, define variable.  In the variable box type ‘name’.  Under ‘change settings’, click ‘type’.  Select string by clicking on the dot.  In the characters box, enter the length of your name plus one for a space, click ‘continue’, then click ‘ok’.  Type your name in the box directly below the toolbar at the top of the sheet.  Go to, analyze, descriptive statistics, frequencies.  Highlight the word name by clicking on it.  Click the arrow to send it to the box on the right side.  Click ‘ok’. You may have to wait a minute for the program to run. 

 

Your name should appear in the Frequencies section in a box labeled      ‘name’.  Another box will appear above your name, you may delete it.

Where can I find the net_apps folder?

 

If the Net_Apps folder doesn’t appear on the desktop, just double click on ‘My Computer’. Then click on the O: drive and right click on the Net_Apps folder. Select ‘copy’ and then exit out of all of the open windows. Once your cursor is on the desktop, right click again and hit ‘paste’. Now you can access the Net_Apps folder from the desktop.
