What do I do when my computer freezes?

Students

If your computer freezes while you are typing a document, you will have to close the program by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete. A window will appear on your screen and you will have to select the program that froze (it’s usually the one that says ‘Not Responding’ beside it) and select ‘End Task’. Once you’re on the desktop screen again, select the program that you just closed. It will probably load up and ask if you want to save the information from the last document. You should select ‘Open’, if this screen appears, and save the document right away.

If your computer has frozen, and you don’t know what steps to follow, you should go to the help desk and ask a lab assistant to help you.

Who do I call if my computer in residence isn’t working?

The computer lab is not responsible for your personal computer. If it’s a problem with your Aliant accounts contact Student Affairs.  If it is a problem with the hub or modem contact Aliant.  If there is a problem with the hardware of your computer, in the yellow pages of the Fredericton phone book, under Computer Repairs, Cleaning and Service, you can find businesses which can help you with your computer maintenance. Or simply call the computer store in which you purchased the computer and they can refer you to a local computer repair depot.

Can I log into my novell and email accounts now if I'm a new student in the fall ?

New students won’t be able to log onto the computers until September. When you get to the campus in September, remember to bring your course registration sheet to the computer lab. Your registration sheet will have your student number, as well as your pin number, printed on it. You will need them in order to log onto the computers for the first time.
