Why can’t I open a file I saved from home?

 

First of all you should check what type of file it is, this can be done by right clicking on the icon and selecting ‘propertiesA box will appear, beside where it says ‘file type’ or ‘type of file’, check to see if the file extension is ‘.WPS’.  If it is .wps, you won’t be able to open the file on STU computers.

 

If the file extension is not ‘.wps’, and you are still having problems trying to open the file, please ask the lab assistant for assistance.

How do I save my work to a course drive?         

 

Once your document is ready, choose the ‘File’ option at the top left-hand corner of your screen. On the drop down menu, choose the ‘save file as’ option. In the ‘Save in:’ box chose the {O:} drive. In the O:\ drive choose the Net Apps folder. Under Net Apps select the Course Drive folder. Choose the folder that corresponds to your course. Type a name for your document in the ‘File name:’ box, then select Save.

How do I save a document to the a: drive or f: drive?          

 

If you are typing a document in Word Perfect or Microsoft Word it is a good idea to save your work several times, while you are in the process of typing. To do this, choose the ‘File’ option in the top left hand corner of your screen. Choose the ‘save as’ option on the drop down menu. In the ‘save in’ box that appears in the next window you will have to choose the (A:) drive or the (F:) drive.

 

The A: drive will save your work on a disk. For this option to work you will have to have a disk inserted in the A: drive in your computer.

 

The F: drive is your own personal drive which only you can view. If you save your work here you will be able to access it on any computer on the St. Thomas campus and at home. Remember, disks are very unreliable and files saved on disks can become corrupt or be erased very easily.
