Message from the President

On behalf of the faculty and staff of St. Thomas University I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning students. I hope that all of you have had a restful and enjoyable summer and are charged with energy and enthusiasm for the academic challenges that lie ahead. Welcome Week at St. Thomas has been designed to provide you with the information, skills and friendships that will last beyond the coming academic year.

We like to describe ourselves as a small-scale university with a large-scale reputation. We have transformed our size into a strength by thinking strategically, remaining focused on our core programs, and by maintaining a firm commitment to a quality agenda.

With an enrolment of 2800 full-time students, we also take pride in the fact that we offer our students the best of both worlds. Our students enjoy all the advantages of a close-knit academic community and, at the same time, the library, athletic, health, social and cultural facilities of an institution many times our size. Our students quickly learn that there is a strong sense of community here at St. Thomas.

The university experience should be more than simply an academic exercise. Therefore, although it is important to attend class and to study, it is also important to take the time to enjoy the extracurricular activities which are offered at St. Thomas. There are excellent productions presented through the Black Box theatre, numerous musical events, dozens of clubs and societies, ten varsity sports teams, and a state-of-the-art fitness centre. So join in, develop new interests, and make new friends.

I would like to wish the best of success and I look forward to meeting you at some of the various university events which are scheduled during the fall and winter term.
