AHRC conferences

AHRC conferencesBishop Faber MacDonald, keynote speaker Archbishop V. James Weisberger and Senator Noel Kinsella share a moment at one of the AHRC’s summer conferences.

The Atlantic Human Rights Centre hosted three major conferences this past summer.
The first, a three-day event (July 29-31) entitled “The Church, Human Rights and the Internet,” examined the Internet’s role in human rights, explored advantages of the Internet as a means for the Church to articulate its mission to human rights, and developed areas of research and education to assist the Church’s mandate.

The August 1-2 “International Conference of Academic Human Rights Centres” followed. Authorities from around the globe discussed topics such as the positive and negative consequences of globalization for human rights, and the coherence and tensions between research and activism regarding problems of globalization and human rights.

In addition to a third conference, “International Human Rights Education Consortium,” the AHRC also hosted its fourth annual summer institute “Teaching FOR and ABOUT Human Rights.”
