The
Conference Travel Fund
The Conference
Travel Fund consists of $16,000 from the "professional development
fund" created by Article 20.01 of the collective agreement for
full time faculty. It provides financial assistance to full-time faculty
members, including sabbaticants, who are actively participating in conferences.
"Active participation" includes such things as presenting
a paper or poster, acting as a discussant, or other equivalent recognized
conference participation. Attendance in and of itself does not constitute
active participation. Funding decisions will be made by the Senate Research
Committee within 30 days of the application deadline.
• There
are two competitions:
1) $8000 will
be made available in the May 1st, 2005 competition for travel from May
15, 2005 - June 30, 2006.
2) Another competition
will be held in November 2005.
• Applicants
who are considering attending a conference should apply by the appropriate
deadline even if active participation in the conference has not been
confirmed at the time of application. Any grant will be conditional
upon confirmation of active participation
• Applications are to be directed to the Secretary of the Assistant
Vice-President (Research). They are to indicate the name, date, and
location of the conference or event, and the nature of the applicant's
participation. Documentation attesting to the acceptance or invitation
to participate should be attached, if available. Applicants shall include
a budget.
• Financial support will be provided as follows:
1) For travel between
150-700 km (one way): Up to $200.00
2) For travel
700-2000 km (one way): Up to $400
3) For travel over
2000 km (one way): Up to $700
4) Reimbursement
up to these amounts will be made according to the University Travel
Policy.
• Conditions
Associated with Travel Grant
1) Individuals
will be awarded no more than one travel grant in each academic year.
2) Funds that are
awarded but not spent will be returned to Conference Travel Fund one
year after the date of the letter announcing the award unless the grant
winner requests an extension and this extension is approved by the Senate
Research Committee.
3) If confirmation
has not been received, the award will not be released until an official
notification of confirmation is received by the secretary of the Assistant
Vice-President (Research)

Committee requires a full, detailed and itemized budget. Submissions
