RESEARCH NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2003

RESEARCH SERVICES, WINTER 2004

As you will have read from the message by the President, I will be remaining in part of my job (the research part) but I have relinquished the faculty development parts. I will be on what amounts to a 4/5 sabbatical next semester and I will be available on Wednesdays only. If you have any query when I am not accessible, or if you would like an appointment, please contact Lehanne Knowlton my new assistant (knowlton or x 647). I will try to keep 8-10am and 5-6pm on Wednesdays free for people to drop in without appointment. Between February 20th and April 10th I will be out of the country but accessible by e-mail (not every day though). The Research Committee will meet regularly so please let Lehanne have any suggestions about items that we should discuss. Ian Fraser has kindly agreed to Chair the Research Committee from Jan - June 2004.

The next semester will not be a time for the research office to initiate many new projects but I will do what I can to assist individuals and groups of faculty who want to pursue new ideas. I will also work with faculty who intend to submit a SSHRC RDI application in the April competition. Please keep me informed about what is going on and let me know if you want my involvement. The SRC will be considering an application for a grant under the SSHRC "Aid to Small Universities" scheme, application due Dec 1st 2004. This could give us up to $30,000 a year for 3 years so we should go for it. We will need to do preliminary work this semester. If anyone has ideas about what we should apply for, please let me know. Details are on this site:
