  • Multiculturalism Issues in Canada: a three-year Strategic Joint Initiative program of SSHRC and the Multiculturalism Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. Application deadline is 30 November 2004. Grant maximum is 50K. For more information, please visit: http://www.sshrc.ca/web/apply/program_descriptions/multiculturalism_e.asp
  • Ford Foundation Grants: Funding available in numerous areas of social science and the humanities, primarily relating to the following fields: Asset Building and Community Development; Education Reform; and, Human Rights.   • Metropolis – Call for Proposals: “Governance and Glows of International Migration.” Research outlines should be submitted no later than 1 January 2005. Full proposals must be submitted by 31 May 2005. Successful applicants may receive up to 100,000 euros to conduct the developmental studies that have been accepted. NEW SOURCES OF RESEARCH FUNDING

  • Bank of Canada Fellowship - Available for areas critical to the Bank’s mandate: macroeconomics, monetary economics, international finance, and the economics of financial markets and institutions. Deadline is 15 November 2004. Awards between $20,000 and $50,000. For more information, please visit http://www.bankofcanada.ca/fellowship
  • “Indigenous Participation in Bush Produce Industries”: PhD Scholarship available from the Centre for Rural and Regional Development at the University of South Australia, in the amount of $5-6,000. More information is available from the Research Office.
  • “Arid Lands Governance Project”: PhD Scholarship available from the Centre for Rural and Regional Development at the University of South Australia and another from the School of Management at Curtin University in Perth. Award in the amount of $5-6,000 More information is available from the Research Office.
  • Canada-US Fulbright Program Call for Applications: for Canadian Scholars, Post-doctoral Researchers, Graduate Students and Graduating Seniors who are interested in teaching or researching for one or two semesters in the United States. Visiting Chair and Traditional Fulbright Scholar Awards carry a value of US$25,000 (for one year, US$12,500 for one semester), plus health insurance and visa services. Traditional Fulbright Student Awards allow students and researchers to conduct their research at a US institution. This award carried the value of US$15,000, plus health and visa. Application deadline is 15 November 2004 for exchanges to commence in September 2005, or January 2006. For more information, please visit http://www.fulbright.ca.

REMINDERS

The first information session for students for the SSHRC Master’s Scholarship will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 from 1:00 – 2:30pm in the Holy Cross Conference Room. The internal deadline for this award is December 1, 2004.
