RESEARCH AND FACULTY DEVELOPMENT NEWSLETTER
September 5th 2003
RESEARCH
GRANTS
SSHRC
Remember, the Internal Deadline for SSHRC Standard Research Grant Applications
is Monday 29 September. Please let me know asap if you intend to apply.
Also, please let me know if you would like to discuss your application
before that date. Last year faculty volunteers agreed to act as second
readers of applications (I read all the applications). Second readers
review the application and give direct feedback to the applicant. In
my opinion, second readwers can strengthen applications a lot. If you
would like a second reader for your application, or if you are willing
to act as a second reader please let me know.
NBIF
This is a reminder that the deadline for Research Assistants from NBIF
is 12 September. Thanks to Lorraine Nolan for letting me have a link
that works (I hope). It is http://www.nbif.ca/media_uploads/pdf/17.pdf
. Grants are up to $5000 for one year for an undergraduate and up to
$10,000 a year for up to 2 years for a graduate student.

Check it out at

I have recently added material to the “Career Development”
section. In this section there are links to
1. Book Launches/Faculty Success
2. Deadlines and Due Dates
3. Expectations and Support
4. Faculty Awards
5. Professional Development Interviews
6. Renewal, Promotion and Tenure
7. Sabbatical Requests. Recommendations and Reports
Thanks to everyone who suggested items that should be included in this
section and for recommending changes to the drafts I distributed last
week.
I am now working
on the “teaching” and the “frequently asked questions”
sections.
Please give me ideas about what you think should be included in each
of these sections.
It has been suggested that I should have links to course outlines that
are “on line”. If you have outlines “on line”
please let me have the links

The call for proposals

nor received your memo, contact Student Affairs.
