Richard Wagamese is one of Canada's foremost Native authors and storytellers. He is a member of the Objibway Nation who has worked as a professional writer since 1979 he's been a newspaper columnist and reporter, radio and television broadcaster and producer, documentary producer and the author of seven titles from major Canadian publishers with two new works waiting in the wings. He also works simultaneously in newspaper, radio and television.
Alean Al-Krenawi is the Killam Visiting Scholar at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary and is the former Chair of the Spitzer School of Social Work, Ben Gurion University of the Negev. Professor Al-Krenawi has written extensively on social and mental health service delivery in the Muslim Arab world, and brings his insight from his cross-cultural research, and work with Muslim communities to our conference. Dr. Al-Krenawi has earned an international reputation for his numerous scholarly publications
Highlights: Thursday, June 17 was a day of pre-workshops and concluded in the evening with Richard Wagamese's Opening Keynote Address. Alean Al-Krenawi’s keynote was on Saturday morning.
Thursday, June 17, included various workshops such as: Aboriginal Spirituality and Sweat lodge by Casey Eaglespeaker, Energies Therapy by Douglas Chung, and a Trauma Workshop by Judy Chew. Friday, June 18 and Saturday June 19 included a variety of academic papers on diverse themes exploring spirituality in the healing process, in social work education, in activism and community work, and in self-nurture for resilience and compassion.
