Tenure Track Position in Gerontology

The Department of Gerontology, St. Thomas University, invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1st, 2021, pending budgetary approval.

St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada with a full-time enrolment of 1,900. Its students graduate with Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work degrees. The faculty members are distinguished teachers, researchers and scholars, and the university holds three Canada Research Chairs.

The Department of Gerontology seeks candidates with research expertise which reflects the multidisciplinary nature of the discipline of Gerontology and have knowledge of mental health and psychology of aging. The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in Gerontology in the areas of Introduction to Gerontology, Developmental Aging (Adult Development), Mental Health and Aging, Counselling Older Adults, Advanced Seminar courses, Psychology of Aging, and Dementia Studies. An interest and experience in community outreach with older adults and gerontological issues in the Province of New Brunswick would be considered an asset. The candidate must have demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching in Gerontology.

A PhD or imminent completion is required. Applications will be accepted electronically and must include a letter of application that describes the applicant’s teaching experience, scholarly interests and achievements, and potential contributions to the program as specified in the qualifications listed above. The application must also include a curriculum vitae and a teaching dossier that provides evidence of teaching effectiveness, including sample course syllabi, teaching evaluations, and a statement of teaching philosophy. Applicants should also submit one sample of scholarly work and arrange to have three letters of reference sent directly to Dr. Linda Caissie, Chair, Department of Gerontology at gerontologychair@stu.ca.
