Dr. Dinan does research in Classical and Contemporary political philosophy, and has additional interests in Christian theology and literature and film. He’s published articles on such thinkers as Plato, Aristotle, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Arendt, and Derrida. He is the co-editor of Politics, Literature, and Film in Conversation (Lexington Books) and What is Canadian Philosophy?

His current research projects include a monograph exploring Søren Kierkegaard as a Socratic political thinker, Kierkegaard’s Socratic Modernity, an exploration of the concept of sungnomē or forgiveness in Aristotle’s political thought, and using some of the works of playwright Tom Stoppard to parse the tense relationship between scientific progress and political liberty.

Dr. Dinan also contributes to The Hedgehog Review, a journal offering “critical reflections on contemporary culture,” published by the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the University of Virginia.
