Join us to celebrate the launch of Dr. Marcea Ingersoll’s book, Key Concepts in Curriculum Studies: Perspectives on the Fundamentals, on Friday, November 1 at 2:30 pm in the Brian Mulroney Hall Rotunda.

Key Concepts in Curriculum Studies is published by Routledge and offers an entry into curriculum theory for novice and experienced students alike.

In the edited collection, leading scholars in curriculum studies provide short anchor texts that introduce, define, and situate contemporary curriculum theory constructs. Featuring commentary on major relevant themes, as well as discussion questions for students, the book is an essential text for doctoral and masters-level courses in curriculum studies.

Dr. Ingersoll co-edited the book along with colleagues from Queen’s University: Drs. Judy Wearing, Chris Deluca, Ben Bolden, Holly Ogden, and Ted Christou. In addition to co-authoring the introduction, Ingersoll authored three individual contributions on the concepts of ecology, social justice, and standards in education: “Toward a Global Pedagogy of Ecology: Thinking Outside the Boxes,”  “Social Justice Q & A,” and “Standards.” The keyword approach that frames the text is a core feature of Dr. Ingersoll’s pedagogy, and two of her former students and St. Thomas BEd ’18 graduates also have contributions in the book: Matthew Jenkins and Cassie MacPhail.

After a career as an international educator, Ingersoll returned to Canada to teach and began a research journey into international schools and their communities. Her MEd work examined Malaysian parents’ experiences in selecting an international school for their children. In her PhD research, she storied the experiences of over 100 Canadian educators who were thinking of teaching internationally, were teaching at international schools, or had decided to leave international teaching and return to Canada.

Dr. Ingersoll is the current Director of the School of Education. She is a collaborative scholar and works with other researchers at Queen’s, UNB, and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Narrative at St. Thomas University. Recently, Marcea was named one of the Top 50 Influential Alumni in 50 Years of Queen’s Education. She holds a BA from St. Thomas University and a BEd, MEd, PhD from Queen’s University.
