Join local Black business owners Tosin Ajibola, of Welkom-U Inc, Sydona Chandon, of Work of Art Photography, and Bolaji Akintola, of Divine African Market, for a presentation on being a Black entrepreneur in New Brunswick. They will discuss common obstacles and how to overcome them and offer advice to budding Black entrepreneurs in the province.

Tosin Ajibola

Tosin Ajibola, is a Computer Scientist, Tech Entrepreneur and Business Development manager with five years of industry experience. He immigrated to Canada in 2019 for his Masters Program and co-founded a company called Welkom-U during the course of his Masters. He has been recognized as one of the top 30 under 30 innovators in Atlantic Canada (2021) and was the recipient of the RBC Community leadership Award in 2020 and the Canadian Information Processing Society Award for Leadership in Innovation. Tosin earned his Masters Degree in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship from the University of New Brunswick and is passionate about solving problems with technology and leadership. He hopes to help future entrepreneurs understand the challenges of integrating into a new community and starting a company and how to navigate through them. 

 

Sydona Chandon

Sydona Chandon is a fourth-year student and entrepreneur pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at St. Thomas University. From the sunny island of Jamaica, Sydona has been passionate about entrepreneurship since her early teens and owned her first business at the age of 17. She has since gone on to pursue her love for photography and directing and is now the proud owner of Work Of Art Photography. Since moving to Fredericton she has delved into advocacy work—her second love. Sydona is the Vice-President Education for the St. Thomas University Students’ Union and co-founder of Alive In The Word International Ministries, a not-for-profit organization. Recently, she was recognized by the New Brunswick Multicultural Association as a Cultural Champion for Diversity (2020-2021). Sydona hopes to inspire youth to find success through persistently doing and creating the things they love. 

 

Bolaji Akintola

Bolaji Akintola is a chartered accountant with fourteen years experience in a top Nigerian bank and three years experience as an Internal Auditor with the Government of New Brunswick. When she migrated to New Brunswick in April 2018, she realized there was a lack of African food products in Fredericton, so she decided to start selling bits from her home.  In December of 2019, Bolaji opened the Divine African Market to meet the growing need for African food in the region. The store specializes in foods like yam, cassava flour, African noodles and spices.
