Merchants of Doubt takes audiences on a satirically comedic, yet illuminating ride into the heart of conjuring American spin. Filmmaker Robert Kenner (Food, Inc.) lifts the curtain on a secretive group of highly charismatic, silver-tongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities - yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studied public threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change.

Discussion following the film will be led by:

Prof. Carla Gunn, Psychology
Dr. Angela Wisniewski, Science and Technology Studies
Hannah Moore, STU Sustainability, ENVS/COPP Major
Others TBD

This screening of Merchants of Doubt is presented at STU in conjunction with THE GALILEO PROJECT—a series of events in Fall 2018 focused on the themes of science, knowledge, and power—convened by Dr. Jane Jenkins (Science & Technology Studies), Dr. Robin Vose (History), Dr. Robin C. Whittaker (English and Drama), and Dr. Janice Harvey, (Environment and Society).
