Educational Equity Statement Instructions

All applicants wishing to be considered under the Equity Admissions Policy must clearly identify on the PD BSW Supplementary Application Form the source of oppression that has disadvantaged you.

In order to be considered under this equity policy, applicants must demonstrate how their situation relates to disadvantage or oppression associated with factors protected under the New Brunswick Human Rights Act. This should be clearly explained in the applicant’s Educational Equity Statement.

The New Brunswick Human Rights Act works to protect individuals from discrimination based on the following.

  • Race
  • Colour
  • Religion
  • National Origin
  • Ancestry
  • Place of origin
  • Age
  • Physical disability
  • Mental disability
  • Marital status
  • Sexual orientation
  • Sex
  • Social condition
  • Political belief or activity

The Educational Equity Statement should also include an explanation of the barriers that applicants have experienced because of their self-identification with a specific group, or because of labels imposed upon them by society, and should describe the impact this has had on their personal and professional life, education, and ability to succeed.

This statement should be limited to one page, double-spaced. Applicants are encouraged to provide additional information that supports this statement. The School of Social Work may request clarification or additional information, if needed.
