Please join us on Friday, November 18 at 2:30 in the BMH Rotunda for a book sharing circle celebrating the publication of The Gatherings: Reimagining Indigenous-Settler Relations by Shirley N. Hager and Mawopiyane. One of the co-authors of the book is St. Thomas University’s Elder in Residence Miigam’agan.

The Gatherings tells the story of several years of gatherings on Wabanaki territory between Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals to explore the pressing questions at the heart of Truth and Healing efforts in the United States and Canada. The book shares the story of these meetings in the words of participants.

The event will include a sharing circle where participants can read passages and share their thoughts on the book. Some authors will be present to read or respond themselves, while others may be attending virtually or represented by family or students. A question and answer session will follow the sharing circle.

To reflect the collaborative nature of this project, the word Mawopiyane is used to describe the full group of co-authors: Gwen Bear, Shirley Bowen, Alma H. Brooks, gkisedtanamoogk, JoAnn Hughes, Debbie Leighton, Barb Martin, Miigam’agan, T. Dana Mitchell, Wayne A. Newell, Betty Peterson, Marilyn Keyes Roper and Wesley Rothermel.

Refreshments will be provided. Copies of the book will also be available for purchase.

Join virtually here.
