Research

Dr. Irwin-Kenyon recently co-edited a volume entitled, Storying Later Life (Oxford, 2011) with Bill Randall and Ernst Bohlmeijer. This volume explores a wide range of thinking and practice in Narrative Gerontology, Narrative Care, wisdom, personal meaning, and spirituality. Dr. Irwin-Kenyon recently won an international award from the Gerontological Society of America for an article on “narrative foreclosure” (with E. Bohlmeijer, B. Randall, T. Tromp, and G. Westerhof). Currently, he is specifically exploring the relationship between Tai Chi and Narrative Care, and the use of stillness and silence in this context.

Areas of Interest

Dr Irwin-Kenyon’s teaching and research interests are in the areas of Narrative Gerontology, Narrative Care, wisdom, personal meaning, spirituality, and meaningful aging. He has co-edited four volumes that explore the above themes. Dr. Irwin-Kenyon has also acted as Guest Editor for special issues of the Canadian Journal on Aging, Ageing and Society, and the Journal of Aging Studies (with Bill Randall). Dr. Irwin-Kenyon has also written two volumes with Dr. Randall: Restorying our Lives, and Ordinary Wisdom
