Carey Watt teaches South Asian and World History courses from 1st-year surveys through to 4th-year seminars. He aims to share knowledge and skills but also pique the curiosity of students so that they formulate, ask and investigate good questions. His PhD was in modern Indian history, but with elements of world history very much present. His research interests are eclectic and he has written about social service (seva) and philanthropy, civilizing missions, the Boy Scout movement, colonial legacies in French (Beur) fiction, and has published historiographical and pedagogical pieces on world history. His most recent work focuses on the globalization of physical culture  – specifically the 1904-05 Afro-Asian “world tour” of strongman Eugen Sandow.
