Criminology Professor Dr. Susan Reid Named to the Order of New Brunswick

Criminology Professor Dr. Susan Reid has been awarded the Order of New Brunswick, one of the province’s highest civilian honours.

 

Dr. Reid is receiving the ONB for her dedication to social justice through her applied research and programming in the areas of youth justice, trauma, victimization, and gender-based violence, and for her promotion of volunteerism and social action.

 

A professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, her research has centered on youth justice.  She teaches courses on youth justice policy, at-risk children and youth, crime prevention, and child and youth rights. Her work with young people in conflict with the law has led  to an increased understanding  of the key issues they face. She is currently the  Director of the Centre for Research on Vulnerable Women and Youth, which provides research, consultation and outreach to a variety of community organizations. For example, at the New Brunswick Women’s Correctional Centre in Miramichi, it engages women in research projects and the creation of programming on trauma, victimization, and gender-based violence.
