Discover the Ancient World: Greece Travel Study with Great Books May 2023

A new travel study course to Greece is being offered in Spring 2023 through St. Thomas’ Great Books program. Great Books 2013: Eros and Empire explores the most famous conflict of the ancient world: The Peloponnesian War. Students will study Thucydides’ The Peloponnesian War, Aristophanes’ Peace, and Plato’s Alcibiades before visiting key historical sites in Greece including Athens, Sparta, Mycenae, Pylos, Olympia, and more.

 

Course work will be completed in Fredericton (hybrid/online option available) so students can concentrate on experiencing as much as possible during  their time in Greece. Classes run April 24-28 and May 1-2 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and students will travel to Greece May 4-13. While in Greece, students will gain special access to historical and archaeological sites through the Peloponnese and have time to explore Greece independently at each location.

 

The interdisciplinary, discussion-based course led by Dr. Matt Dinan and Dr. Andrew Moore will count toward the Certificate in Experiential Learning.

 

Total cost of the course is $3515, which includes all travel and accommodations, tuition and most meals. A $500 deposit is due November 30, 2022.
