Nominations are being accepted for Special Merit Awards for Teaching, Research, and Service that recognize the outstanding contributions of full-time faculty members in their areas of professional responsibility and for the Excellence in Part-Time Teaching Award to recognize the outstanding contributions of part-time faculty members in their area of professional responsibility.

These awards recognize and honour excellence within our faculty. The deadline for nominations is February 15 and the awards will be presented at Spring Convocation.

Faculty Awards for Teaching, Scholarship and Service

  • The John McKendy Memorial Teaching Award recognizes teaching quality and effectiveness.
  • The University Scholarship Award recognizes scholarly work including research, publications, and work of creative or cultural significance.
  • The University Service Award recognizes contributions to the University, the professional field, the Union, and the community.

The standard for these awards is the achievement of excellence in these areas of activities. The awards generally recognize individuals who make outstanding contributions in the year in which the award is made; however, achievements which represent the culmination of several years’ work will also be considered for recognition.

Nominations may be made to the Special Merit Awards Committee by students, faculty, alumni, or administrators in the form of a letter to the Vice-President (Academic and Research) that indicates the rationale for the nomination with reference to some or all of the criteria noted above. The letter may be multiply signed; however, the primary consideration will be the substance of the nomination rather than the number of signatories.

The Special Merit Awards are valued at $1500 each and are deposited to the Professional Development Reimbursement account of the honoured faculty member. Further information may be found here.

Excellence in Part-Time Teaching Award

Nominations are also being accepted for the Excellence in Part-Time Teaching Award to recognize the outstanding contributions of our part-time faculty members in their area of professional responsibility.

The Excellence in Part-Time Teaching Award has been established for the purpose of recognizing, on a year-by-year basis, particular faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in their teaching. A Special Merit Awards Committee has been established to adjudicate full-time faculty awards for teaching, research, and service. The Special Merit Awards Committee is also responsible for adjudicating the Excellence in Part-Time Teaching Award according to the same procedures.
