Call for Nominations for the Tom McCann Memorial Trophy 2024

Students, faculty, and staff of St. Thomas University are invited to make recommendations of worthy candidates for the Tom McCann Memorial Trophy.

The deadline for receiving submissions is Friday, March 15 at 4 pm.

The Tom McCann Memorial Trophy honours Thomas Stephen McCann, a student who made an outstanding contribution to the University community before his untimely death on August 10, 1969. The Award is given to a St. Thomas University graduating student who best portrays the spirit of the institution by their contributions to university and student affairs, and through their leadership, character, and personality. All nominees should have at least a B average.

The recipient of the Trophy is determined by a Selection Committee composed of the President, Vice-President (Academic and Research), Registrar, Associate Vice-President (Enrolment Management), Grad Class President, and a Faculty Member (selected by the President). If the Grad Class President is nominated, then the President will select another student representative as an alternate. The award is accompanied by a monetary prize of $500.

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to make written nominations which include the reasons why you consider your nominee to be a worthy candidate for consideration by the Committee. Each nomination must be supported by three individuals from the St. Thomas community, at least one of which may be a faculty member and one must be from a student. Please ensure that nominations are signed. Please provide the candidate’s resume with your submission.

The Award will be presented at the Graduates’ Dinner on Friday, April 5.
