2019 - Dr. Sharon Murray

Dr. Sharon Murray’s nomination for the University Service Award received support from current and former faculty, students, and staff who praised her work over 34 years at St. Thomas University. They noted her measured and steady manner, institutional knowledge, ability to provide wise and valuable insights, and her understanding of the characteristics that differentiate St. Thomas University. She has been described as the foundation of the School of Education, providing guidance and support to faculty and students alike. 


Over her career at St. Thomas, she has served on the Board of Governors, the Senate, the Research Ethics Board, the Senate Committee on Reconciliation, the Rhodes Scholarship Search Committee, and the Canada Research Chair Selection Committee, among many other governance committees. Dr. Murray has also served as Department Chair and Director of the School of Education, and often sat on the hiring committees for other academic departments. Dr. Murray has served her profession as an advisor to the Provincial Department of Education. She holds a BA, BEd, and MEd from UNB, and a PhD from the University of East Anglia.
