Dr. McKim’s research interests include:

  • Literature and medicine
  • Illness narratives
  • The role of narrative in identity
  • Literary gerontology
  • Life-writing, particularly memoir
  • Bibliotherapy, particularly with fiction

Current projects involve a study of the relationship between bibliotherapy and recent research on reading; a joint project with the CIRN team involving the correlation between resilience and narrative competence among older adults; a joint book-editing project with colleagues in Paris entitled Life and Narrative (a collection of essays coming out of the conference Narrative Matters 2012); and the ongoing editing of the journal Narrative Works: Issues, Investigations, & Interventions.
