Michelle Lafrance adopts critical and feminist approaches in understanding people’s experiences of distress and wellbeing.  She has published and presented on a variety of topics including women’s experiences of depression and recovery, the social construction of mental illness, discourses of femininity, women’s leisure, and sexuality.  The research questions she asks tend to revolve around women’s efforts to resist dominance in their efforts to live well.  She employs qualitative methods and specializes in discourse analytic approaches.  Her next research project will explore people’s experiences of providing informal care and will be conducted with the hopes of informing policy and practice in New Brunswick.
