Dr. Rusty Bittermann is an accomplished and dedicated teacher who has enriched the academic experience of his students. His goal – inside and outside the classroom – is to work with students to discern the paths that humans have travelled and consider how those paths affect where we find ourselves today. He is highly regarded by his students for the passion he exhibits, his welcoming classroom atmosphere and his dedication to helping them achieve their potential. To broaden their classroom experience, he incorporates photographs, personal histories, and anecdotes into the curriculum.

Over his eight years at St. Thomas, Dr. Bittermann has helped to develop a world history curriculum, edited the journal Acadiensis, chaired the Department of History, and co-edited the Journal of Canadian Studies.

He has received numerous awards for his research on the social history of Atlantic Canada.
