Academic Advising

Academic Advising is here to support you through your academic career at St. Thomas University. Whether you need help figuring out which courses you need to take to meet the requirements of your major or you’re looking for advice on post-degree programs that fit your academic interests, Shauna Foote and Alison Belyea are here to help.

Contact Alison Belyea (BA, MA) or Shauna Foote (BA, MEd) to set up a meeting by emailing advising@stu.ca or calling 452-0530.

There is a Degree Audit Checklist that all 3rd and 4th year students must complete prior to having an academic advising appointment. The Checklist can be picked up in the Registrar’s Office.

Academic Resources for Students

Academic Calendar

The Academic Calendar is your guide to academics at the university—from admissions information, degree, minor, and honours requirements, policies, regulations, and more. The calendar is released annually. It is important to note that you must follow the version released the year that you started at St. Thomas. Previous versions of the calendar are available on the Academic Calendar page.

Meeting Degree Requirements

To ensure you are on track to meet the requirements of your Bachelor of Arts, please refer to the Bachelor of Arts Academic Requirements.

As you choose your major(s)/honours program and begin to register for your final years of courses, it will be important to keep this Degree Audit Checklist to ensure you have not missed any requirements for graduation.

WebAdvisor

WebAdvisor is where you will choose and register for your courses, check your grades, and more. If you are new to WebAdvisor, check out this how-to video on registering for courses.

Academic Transcripts

Your transcript summarizes your academic history at St. Thomas. You can access an unofficial transcript through Webadvisor for your own records. If you require an official transcript—for applying to graduate school or for other purposes—you can request one here.

Transfer Students

If you are coming to St. Thomas from another university, be sure to review the Transfer Student section of our website. The Credit Transfer Portal will likewise be an important resource for you.

Exchange Students

If you are attending St. Thomas as an exchange student, contact Alison Belyea, Academic Advisor, (belyea@stu.ca) who works closely with the International Student Advisor to ensure you are meeting requirements of your home university through the selection of approved courses.

If you are a STU student going on an exchange, visit the International Education Opportunities section to learn more about what you need to know about spending a semester or year abroad.

Departmental Advisors

If you have questions regarding a particular major or honours, departmental advisors are available to answer your questions. Please see the Academic Chairs 2018-19.
